The Soul of Vietnam Photography Tour and Workshop



A photography tour and workshop of Vietnam March 27 – April 5, 2018, with a four day extension to April 10 offered as an option. Led by international fine art photographer Lawrence D’Attilio, author of “The Soul of Vietnam”.

This is an insider’s visual experience for all levels of ability. You will learn to make more remarkable images telling well-informed visual stories. Lawrence D’Attilio has had a long term involvement in Vietnam, and has been a life-long career mentoring other photographers and artists. You will visit places, meet people, and have an inside view unlike any other photo experience offered in Vietnam.

Cost are in listed in USD and includes in-country flights, 3-star or more hotels with single rooms, breakfast and dinner each day and ground transportation. A friend or spouse can be added for all but the photo instruction for an additional sum. English-speaking translators will be available during photograph expeditions. The Tour Workshop is limited to 12 photographers – beginning amateurs to experienced level image makers are welcome

  • Air travel within Vietnam. Round trip travel from your home to Vietnam is not included.
  • Bus Transportation to workshop locations.
  • 3-star hotel accommodations.
  • Private hotel room for you and your traveling companion, if applicable.
  • Two meals per day.
  • Wi-Fi connections.
  • Translators will accompany us during the tour and while photographing; there will be at least one for every three photographers to help you.
  • Additional video-making instruction using video mode on your digital camera.
  • A month before the tour you receive photography help manuals by Lawrence D’Attilio on the techniques you will come to excel in working with him directly. These are the manuals used by D’Attilio in the 24 years he has taught photography in adult continuing education, making him unique in the world of travel photography workshops. (His latest teaching has been in classes at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi and weekend workshops in other places.) 
  • Travel and cultural materials provided by the tour’s administrative staff.
  • Admissions fees for all included historical sites.
  • All gratuities and taxes.
  • One cell phone or Sim card, your preference, with ten dollars of prepaid minutes on a Vietnam network for domestic calls using text or voice.
  • The photo instruction,with Lawrence D’Attilio, a career-long fine art photographer and teacher with much of the last ten years living and photographing in Vietnam (see bio). The photo instruction on the trips is done dividing the students into groups of three each with a translator so they have greater flexibility of choice in their subjects. Lawrence moves between the groups coaching individuals and sometimes a group of three.
  • Additional classroom-type instruction at the hotels for editing, printing, exhibiting, going to portfolio reviews and making a book. Lawrence is among a handful of photographers worldwide with great personal experience in these areas. He says, “Anyone who met my teacher Ansel Adams knows how comprehensive he was in his Yosemite Workshops and teaching in his ‘Basic Photo Series’ books. I am a product of his thinking and wanted to bring his depth into coaching other photographers as we adapt the  modern digital and social media world.”
  • 14 day tour/workshop includes Saigon and the Mekong and includes all the above plus the extra round trip air travel from Saigon to Hanoi.
